The Gluerooms
Amersham Arms, New Cross, London

This date is etched into a considerable number of peoples minds and souls in South London. Sudden Infant at The Gluerooms has developed into somewhat of a Urban myth round these parts. Joke Lanz is fortunately living and working in London and is single handedly responsible for some of the most visual and sonically abrasive Musique Concrete this side of hell.
After only just redeeming ourselves with the Management after the whole doll in chicken livers video by O in February I was a bit concerned about the future of The Gluerooms as I watched Sudden Infant soundcheck. All I was thinking was "How am I gonna explain This one?" When Sudden Infant took to the stage time stopped for most of us. A loop that sounded and felt like someone smashing all the windows of the venue in together, with clean slices of feedback and pick-up splatter coming from a doll with a mini jack up her bum crashed through the building and into the front bar. I turned and looked around at a room full of people with fingers in their ears and smiles on their faces. As the third victim heads for the door the noise stops. A few people shouting to be heard get caught out and as their embarrassed voices swiftly fade away like a vocal decay. Silence, and then the place erupts into a sustained applause.
